An Unexpected Call
Never in my life would I have ever thought I'd become a pastor. Yes, I was raised in a Christian home and came to faith early in life, always trying to live as I thought I should, acting "good" most of the time, and believing I was doing pretty... "okay". But after a failed marriage, falling into a deep depression, and what felt like the complete loss of who I was, I had hit rock bottom and began to realize how much I actually needed God. At age 24 I truly invited Him into my life to heal and transform me - instead of me trying to do everything on my own. And He did.
Years later I had made leaps and bounds in the person I was becoming, but difficult circumstances eventually caused me to hit another depression. It was the winter of 2017, I had just broken off an engagement, and I was living alone - struggling to find joy in anything. On the morning of February 27, I decided to get up early, make some tea, and listen to a sermon I had heard about called "God loves you as you are, not as you should be" by Brennan Manning. During that sermon I had an undeniable experience with Jesus, and I knew I would never be the same. As I fell on my face and cried out to God in prayer, I heard the faintest whisper in my spirit... "I want you to be a pastor."
I immediately laughed and denied it. Me? I'm a complete mess! I'm just a graphic designer, not someone 'spiritual' enough to have a calling like that. No way. I wrote in my journal, "If You want me to be a pastor, I need You to do everything for me because I am completely incapable of even holding an hour of my life together on my own." Two year later, through a surprising chain of events, it happened.
In May of 2019 I became a pastor with the Free Methodist Church and I am still in awe of how God called me - a crazily imperfect person - to be in ministry. But my heart loves helping people and I now feel closer to my purpose than I ever have before. He is taking all the messy pieces of me and steadily redeeming them into something beautiful.
